Bodycare Tips for Preventing Body Acne and Texture
As someone who personally struggled with bacne since my teenage years, I had to learn ways to prevent body acne and congestion. I also played a lot of sports growing up and body acne, specifically on my upper back area, was something I had to learn how to prevent and treat.
Body acne is a bodycare condition that affects people of all ages. Those red and sometimes painful breakouts can impact your confidence and overall skin health. I wouldn’t wear backless shirts or dresses for the longest time because of all the bacne and hyperpigmentation so I can relate to feeling self-conscious about it but learning how to properly take care of my body was essential.
With the right bodycare routine and a few simple tips, you can effectively manage body acne and improve skin texture. Below are four valuable bodycare tips for body acne prevention.
Use Non-Comedogenic Hair and Bodycare Products
One of the first steps in your shower routine should be to use non-comedogenic hair and bodycare products. “Many hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners, styling gels, waxes, pastes, and sprays, contain oil. Even shaving creams and aftershave can contain oil.”
Comedogenic products contain heavy ingredients that are more likely to clog your pores, leading to blemishes and acne. To avoid this, opt for non-comedogenic products, which are specifically designed not to block pores. When looking for hair and bodycare products, ensure that the label contains “non-comedogenic”, “non-acnegenic” or “oil-free”. ClearStem is a great brand for non-comedogenic haircare products.
Due to my experience with products clogging my pores and causing body acne, we made sure that all our bodycare products are non-comedogenic. When using our body wash and body lotion, you will not need to worry about causing any breakouts or congestion.
Always Apply Body Wash After Shampoo and Conditioner
You might not realize it, but your haircare routine can have a significant impact on body acne. Like I mentioned above, shampoos and conditioners often contain heavy oils, silicones and ingredients that can clog pores and lead to breakouts. For further body acne prevention, always apply your body wash after washing and conditioning your hair. This way, you rinse off any product residue that may have come into contact with your skin.
My bodycare tip is to double cleanse - first, use a cleanser that has acne-targeting ingredients. I’ve been using PanOxyl Foaming Wash. Then, follow that with a hydrating body wash that nourishes the skin, like our Único Hand + Body Wash. It has gentle cleansing agents that ensures it’s being cleansed effectively without overdrying or stripping the skin.
Change Out of Sweaty Clothes Immediately & Opt for Loose-Fitting, Breathable Clothing
Tight, restrictive clothing can trap sweat and bacteria against your skin, exacerbating acne. After working out or excessive sweating, switching out of your clothes will help prevent bacteria and dirt from building up and causing inflammation under the skin that can lead to cystic acne and breakouts. What also helps to incorporate a daily body wash in your post-workout shower routine that effectively cleanses your skin.
During the summer, it’s important to opt for loose-fitting, breathable fabrics like linen. This materials allow your skin to breathe and reduce the risk of acne flare-ups.
Just Like your Face, Resist from Picking and Popping
This is a hard one! I admit I start feeling my back area and start scratching my skin texture. I also try picking at blackheads and pimples that I can reach. I’ve been getting better at not picking and popping because I get dark spots and hyperpigmentation afterward and that takes weeks and even months to fade. Picking and touching the area will infect the surrounding area and cause more body cystic acne.
My bodycare recommendation is to treat the area with an acne product that include ingredients such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or AHAs. This can be in a form of a gel or spray.
Consistency is key when it comes to managing body acne and improving skin texture. Stick to your bodycare routine and give it time to work. Results may not be immediate, but with continued effort, you can achieve the clear and smooth skin you desire. By using non-comedogenic hair and bodycare products, ensuring you wash off shampoo and conditioner residue, choosing breathable clothing, and resist picking, you can significantly reduce the risk of body acne and improve skin texture. Remember to be patient, as results may take time, but your skin will thank you for the care and attention you provide.
